Do's and Don'ts When Selecting Treatments 1. Don't let doctors, or anyone else, push you into making hasty decisions. 2. Be sure you are aware of all possible options before you decide on any treatment, including surgery - most of the time you cannot backtrack. 3. Look for a doctor who is a chef, not one who just follows the cookbook variety of treatments. Your doctor should be sensitive and available for your questions and concerns. 4. Be aware of the language cancer researchers use such as "response rates "or "remission" - they differ for every study and sometimes only cover the first six months! And when a claim of a cure for cancer is made, check out names of survivors and results. 5. Find out if you qualify for an immune-stimulating program, especially after completion of conventional therapy.
6. Don't
be afraid to ask for help when you have been diagnosed with cancer – it's
overwhelming to catch up on everything there is to know in a week or two. You
can't get a PhD in two weeks!
